Israel Adesanya wants Alex Pereira rematch to be a ‘bloodbath’

Alex Pereira defeated Israel Adesanya in the UFC 281 main event on November 12 to capture the middleweight championship, and Adesanya expects an immediate rematch.

Adesanya was up on the scorecards heading into the final round. All three judges had him ahead three rounds to one. A right hand by Pereira set in motion a sequence that led to a stoppage rending the scorecards obsolete.

Pereira now holds three wins over the former champion. He defeated Adesanya by decision in kickboxing and won the rematch by knockout. Despite the track record against Pereira in two different sports, Adesanya believes that he deserves an immediate rematch.

“What I’ve done for the gang, I’m like, don’t you dare. I earned the rematch because of the work I’ve done,” Adesanya said on his YouTube channel. “You only got here because of the work I’ve done, off the work of my back.”

Adesanya held the 185-pound title for three years and defended it six times. The loses in kickboxing were in kickboxing. Adesanya believes that his record and accomplishments are enough to deserve a rematch.

“I earned the fight to do this, so I’m going to whoop his ass,” Adesanya said. “I’m excited for this chapter, and I like the way the story goes. I made him bloody. I made him bleed. If you make them bleed you can kill them. This one, I want to make it a bloodbath. Like, I get up and it’s just red.”
