Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is just one day away from the upcoming UFC Vegas 120 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which is set to go down tomorrow night (Sat., Aug. 8, 2026) on Paramount+ from inside Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC Vegas 120<\/strong> features a lightweight main event between 155-pound standouts Mateusz Gamrot<\/strong> and Quillan Salkilld<\/strong>, a five-round showdown that could shake up the division Top 10.<\/p>\n Before we dive into the main and co-main event, which includes the 155-pound collision between unranked lightweight bruisers Billy Quarantillo<\/strong> and Diego Ferreira<\/strong>, check out Andrew Richardson\u2019s \u201cX-Factor\u201d breakdown for the rest of the UFC Vegas 120 main card by clicking here. For complete live results and play-by-play click here.<\/p>\n Mateusz \u201cGamer\u201d Gamrot<\/strong> Quillan Salkilld<\/strong> Mateusz Gamrot enters this important lightweight headliner as the sixth-best lightweight in the division, according to the official 155-pound rankings, and I\u2019m not sure I share that same assessment. \u201cGamer\u201d has not beaten anyone currently ranked in the division Top 15 since Rafael Fiziev blew out his knee at UFC Vegas 79 back in late 2023, an injury that put \u201cAtaman\u201d on the sidelines for nearly two years. Gamrot is a fantastic wrestler with a suffocating ground game and he was able to neutralize Arman Tsarukyan in their UFC Vegas 57 showdown several years back, though I don\u2019t know how much longer we can keep saying \u201cYeah, but he beat Arman\u201d at this stage of the game. Losses to Dan Hooker and Beneil Dariush demonstrated his inconsistency and the Pole turns 36 at the end of the year, which I suppose makes him the right test for an up-and-comer like Quillan Salkilld.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m happy to fight against Quillan because his style is perfect for me,\u201d Gamrot told reporters at the UFC Vegas 120 media day. \u201cHe\u2019s a dangerous kid. He\u2019s tall, young. He looks strong. Kick-heavy style. I need to be careful. But I love when he try taking people to the ground. He\u2019s used some wrestling stuff. I hope he\u2019s going to keep the same strategy for me because there\u2019s going to be lots of scrambles and non-stop action. I love when people try to take me down to the ground. There\u2019s a lot of hype around him, but to be honest, I don\u2019t care. I know what I bring to the table. I feel like world champ. I have nice number in the ranking and everyone wants to take my number. I understand this position. Okay. I invite you to cage. Let\u2019s fight.\u201d<\/p>\n Quillan Salkilld is exactly the kind of fighter the lightweight division needs in 2026 because the old guard is getting \u2026 well, old. By the end of the year, Justin Gaethje will be 38, Charles Oliveira will be 37, and Max Holloway will be 35. They\u2019re still the best in the world, no question, but also in the twilight of their respective careers. Salkilld cut his teeth on Dana White\u2019s \u201cContender Series\u201d back in late 2024, then went on to win five straight fights with four first-round finishes and four post-fight performance bonuses. That\u2019s only one less than Gamrot in a third of the time, giving you an idea of what\u2019s in store for the Aussie if he lives up to the hype. Working against him is the fact that he\u2019s yet to face any serious competition outside of Beneil Dariush but it\u2019s pretty clear Dariush, who lost four of his last five and got knocked out in all four losses, is completely washed at age 37. Gamrot is much closer to the younger version of Dariush and a fight Salkilld asked for.<\/p>\n \u201cI called for it after my last fight, and I\u2019m glad that they gave it,\u201d Salkilld told reporters during the UFC Vegas 120 media day. \u201cHe\u2019s a super tough fighter and no picnic for anyone \u2014 that\u2019s exactly why I wanted the fight. I\u2019m not looking to cherry-pick my way up to the top of the division. I want hard fights. I want someone who is going to put a lot of respect on my name when I beat them. I\u2019m not going to call out anyone who I think is going to be easy. That would make me a p\u2014sy. I\u2019ve been wanting to fight him for a long time, for ages. He\u2019s someone who\u2019s respected, and he\u2019s always someone I\u2019ve envisioned fighting, ever since I was coming up through the pro ranks. He\u2019s always someone I\u2019ve pictured fighting and a fun test to go up against. That\u2019s exactly why I called him out. The timing was right.\u201d<\/p>\n Salkilld has very high stats in offensive wrestling but that\u2019s primarily due to his performances against Gage Young and Yanal Ashmouz, where he combined for 17 takedowns. But if you look at his fights against Dariush and Nasrat Haqparast, Salkilld was 0-6 on takedowns \u2014 and Gamrot has a takedown defense rate of 83 percent. Assuming they cancel each other out on the ground, or at least take turns going to the floor, the better standup fighter is likely to prevail. Based on what we\u2019ve seen over the last few years, and factoring age plus wear and tear, it\u2019s difficult to see Gamrot getting out of this five rounder in one piece.<\/p>\n Diego Ferreira<\/strong> Billy Quarantillo<\/strong> Earlier I mentioned the old guard at 155 pounds and well, you don\u2019t get much older than Diego Ferreira, who\u2019s halfway to his 42nd birthday. The Brazilian was never able to get over the hump and make a serious run at the top of the weight class, but he has consistently been one of the division\u2019s most exciting fighters, to the tune of seven post-fight performance bonuses with three \u201cFight of the Night\u201d honors. Unfortunately, his age is starting to catch up to him. Ferreira has dropped two straight and five of his last seven, leading to the dreaded retirement question in the wake of his second round technical knockout loss to Alexander Hernandez as part of the Noche UFC lineup roughly one year back in San Antonio.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not looking to retire yet,\u201d Ferreira told reporters during the UFC Vegas 120 media day. \u201cA lot of people have been asking me that question, but right now I want to live the moment. I enjoy it here. I like to be a fighter. I like to be a professional fighter. It\u2019s something I took that far, and I never thought about having that kind of lifestyle. I want to enjoy it now, and I want to do things for me and have a purpose in my life. I want to do things for me, and I want to do this as long as I can. You cannot change a warrior. I think the pressure is still going to be there. Going forward is the goal. Put the war like how I did with Anthony Pettis; it is the same goal. But yeah, be more seasoned, more patient, but I\u2019m always looking for the finish. I\u2019m always looking to bite my mouthpiece and move forward. I want to look for the finish in this one.\u201d<\/p>\n Billy Quarantillo is no spring chicken either, turning 38 at the end of the year. The Floridian graduated Dana White\u2019s \u201cContender Series\u201d back in late 2019 and jumped out to three straight wins with two nasty finishes, but failed to keep the momentum going just as it looked as though he was going to make a run at the Top 10. Quarantillo is just 3-5 in the years that followed and has not seen the inside of the Octagon since December of 2024, when he was knocked clean out by veteran banger Cub Swanson. Upon his return, Quarantillo will abandon the featherweight class for a more natural fit at 155 pounds, where he\u2019s roughly the same size as Ferreira but small compared to a long and lean Salkilld. Regardless, how Quarantillo performs at the higher weight will tell us a lot about his future in the lightweight division, and perhaps the UFC overall.<\/p>\n \u201cI had knee surgery last year, so obviously, that takes a lot of time away, and then just focusing on rehab, doing everything right,\u201d Quarantillo told reporters during the UFC Vegas 120 media day. \u201cThen I decided to move up a weight class because I\u2019m getting older, but bigger, stronger. It\u2019s been great so far keeping the size on, but obviously, a long layoff. Before the Youssef Zalal fight, I actually made weight, and I was puking the night before. Pretty much all night. As a fighter, I was like, \u2018Oh man, at least I lost some weight doing this.\u2019 Looking back on it, that was awful. The Cub Swanson fight, the last fight that I had, I made the weight, and it was a long process of making the weight. I just never got back \u2013 I never felt normal again. Even heading over to the venue, I felt like I was drained; I still felt like I was sucked out. So that was like, the decision had to be made. Like, I can\u2019t just keep doing this to my body. Fighting is brutal enough, and to keep torturing myself to make the weight \u2013 I\u2019d rather go in there and have a slight size disadvantage than just to kill myself before the fight.\u201d<\/p>\n Quarantillo is an exciting fighter and should be capable of high-octane offense for at least one round. After that, those two years out of the cage, bigger physique, and incoming fire from Ferreira are likely to send him packing. That\u2019s assuming Quarantillo doesn\u2019t clean the Brazilian\u2019s clock in the opening frame, which is certainly a possibility. Ferreira has a reckless style that has seen him finished in four of his seven losses and chins don\u2019t get better with age. That said, I think he\u2019s able to survive the Quarantillo blitzkrieg early in the fight, then take advantage of his exhausted opponent.
