Strawweight Denis Gomes finds herself fighting in the co-main event at UFC Shanghai this Saturday, taking on a former title challenger in China\u2019s Yan Xiaonan.<\/p>\n
While Yan has competed for gold in the UFC previously, coming up short against Weili Zhang, Gomes doesn\u2019t see her as the biggest threat she\u2019s had to face.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe is a threat, but she\u2019s not the biggest threat yet,\u201d Gomes (12-3) said during the UFC Shanghai media day. \u201cI\u2019m going to use my aggressiveness, my intelligence in my favour. So yes she is a threat, but there\u2019s going to be bigger ones.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gomes won her way into the UFC in 2022, and just four years later finds herself in a co-main event. As to what that progress means, she stated on Wednesday that \u201cit means that what I\u2019ve been doing is showing results, and I think that looking back, the girl who fought at Contenders would be very proud of who I\u2019m becoming now. It\u2019s just one step at a time, and it\u2019s the fruits of our labour.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gomes outlook on the fight is that she\u2019s not just fighting Yan. \u201cThis is the biggest fight in my career, but I think I\u2019m not only fighting her, I\u2019m fighting everyone that she has fought, and all the girls that I\u2019m still going to fight,\u201d she stated. \u201cShe is the biggest right now, but it\u2019s just proof that all the work that we\u2019ve been doing is showing results.\u201d<\/p>\n
