Edmonton \u2014\u00a0Following her own win over Erin Blanchfield, and Mike Malott\u2019s knockout of Joaquin Buckley, Jasmine Jasudavicus called Saturday\u2019s UFC Edmonton \u201can unreal night.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was great for me to get in there and prove how good of a grappler I am. I\u2019m the best women\u2019s grappler in the division,\u201d Jasudavicius (16-4) said backstage at Rogers Place in Edmonton, speaking with media outlets including Cageside Press. \u201cHonestly, I\u2019m going to say, in the world. Just saying.\u201d<\/p>\n
Blanchfield, ranked a couple spots ahead of the Canadian standout (something that will be changing shortly no doubt), had been campaigning for a title fight. To be fair, both fighters were, but the American also came in as the favorite, and might have been overconfident ahead of the fight.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do think that she did underestimate me. She\u2019s obviously a talented grappler, but I\u2019m big, I\u2019m strong, I\u2019m really good at grappling,\u201d suggested Jasudavicius.<\/p>\n
The UFC is now set to return to Toronto in January, with a numbered event at the ScotiaBank area. The first of 2027. A title fight with a Canadian would no doubt be huge.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to it. How sick would that be. Title fight in Toronto, baby. Woohoo!\u201d exclaimed Jasmine on Saturday. She\u2019d later note that \u201cthe division is completely open, and I think that that puts me right in that spot.\u201d As an added bonus, her and Silva have fought once before. It was Jasudavicius\u2019s second scrap in the UFC, and while it didn\u2019t go her way, \u201cwe have some history, so that would be a pretty epic story.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dana White told Cageside Press on Saturday that the timing of Jasudavicius\u2019s victory certainly didn\u2019t hurt her case for a title shot. And she\u2019s clearly excited at the prospect. \u201cI feel like the UFC is really growing in Canada. You hear the crowd. Was that not unreal out there, right? Imagine that, in Toronto, me with a title fight, that would be an awesome story.\u201d<\/p>\n
Regardless, the growth of Jasmine Jasudavicius has been incredible to watch. From the girl who once was best known for saying she was \u201chere for a good time, not a long time,\u201d she\u2019s now here to be the best.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m here for a purpose. I\u2019m not just here to enjoy some fights, just kind of see\u2014 I\u2019m trying to become the best in the world. That is my purpose. Every single day when I\u2019m in the gym, that\u2019s my purpose. I\u2019m not just doing a technique to do a technique. And tonight it mattered, and tonight I\u2019m glad I was able to show that I have the ability to be the best in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
