Quillan Salkilld vs. Mateusz Gamrot squared off in a Lightweight bout earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 8, 2026) inside Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada for UFC Vegas 120.
Salkilld was sharp early, stinging Gamrot with jabs and low kicks before an early left hook rocked the veteran. Gamrot dove onto a single leg and used the following transitions to recover, but he couldn’t ground the strong young Aussie. Gamrot attacked a heel hook and definitely threatened Salkilld, though he couldn’t finish the hold. Salkilld timed a takedown beautifully and advanced into back mount. Despite some excellent scrambling from Gamrot, Salkilld was able to stay on the back and continue attacking the neck.
After a few adjustments, Gamrot was forced to submit.
WOW! This was an incredibly impressive and well-rounded performance from Salkilld. Not only did he pick apart Gamrot on the feet — where we expected Salkilld to have the advantage — but he more than kept up with Gamrot on the canvas. He forced Gamrot to take risks like diving for legs, and Salkilld was able to gain top position as a result of his dominance.
Once on top, his ability to flow through Gamrot’s scrambles to maintain the back was absolutely elite jiu-jitsu. Salkilld knifed through Gamrot like nobody else, and he’s really looking the part of a title contender right now.
