Maximilian Maertens is a longtime H.R. Giger fan, and he named this clock Nostromo, after the spaceship in Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien, giving it three organic legs it can pivot on once assembled. Maison Alcée, the French clockmaker behind it, sells the experience of building the timepiece. The Nostromo arrives as a kit of 222 components in stainless steel, brass, and German silver, with only the regulating organ pre-assembled. Everything else, including the tools and a 250-page illustrated manual with video instructions via QR code, is there to help an owner assemble the rest by hand, a process that takes roughly 10 hours even for someone who has never touched a movement before. The finished clock runs on a movement built at the scale of a wristwatch caliber, keeping a 14-day power reserve with a switchable hour chime. Only 50 will be made.
