Uhh … what the f—k was that?!?
Hager’s slap stint began with a successfully debut back in April, which ended with a big knockout win. Unfortunately, his sophomore appearance resulted in a nasty knockout loss just two months ago, and yet he’s already back to competition.
This latest trip to the podium resulted in a second-round doctor stoppage loss that’s one of the more bizarre things I’ve ever seen covering combat sports. After absorbing his opponent’s slap and remaining conscious, Hager was clearly in a lot of pain. As he winced and limped a few stays away, red fluid began to leak from his tear ducts.
“He hit me right in the eye,” Hager said dejectedly.
Just a few days ago, Demetrious Johnson explained why the risk of blindness wasn’t worth Tom Aspinall trying to return to action to recapture his UFC Heavyweight title. Imagine undergoing that same risk for the handful of pennies slappers are paid, as well as the complete lack of respect and adoration from the general combat sports community.
