Sean Strickland Involved In High-Speed Rollover, No Helmet Worn
UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland says he was involved in a high-speed off-road rollover with no helmet, telling followers he hit his head during the crash and planned to lie down afterward. The fighter shared the account in a social-media video posted on September 20, while his public X account captioned the clip: “Mistakes were made.”
Sean Strickland has given fans a blunt update after what he described as a serious vehicle accident involving an off-road roll at roughly 60 mph. In footage shared through his social media, the UFC middleweight champion said a friend was driving when the vehicle rolled. Strickland said they went over about six times and acknowledged he was not wearing a helmet.

“I had my buddy driving. He rolled us going like 60. We rolled like six times. Did not have a helmet on, idiot,” Strickland said. “I smacked my head on the ground going 60 miles an hour with no helmet, rolling around and smacking the dirt.” The 35-year-old then told viewers, “I think I’m gonna lay here and take a nap for a little bit.” The video appeared on his X account on September 20 alongside the short caption, “Mistakes were made.”

The post drew more than 118,000 views, according to the platform’s public display. Strickland did not provide details on where the accident happened, what kind of vehicle was involved, whether anyone received medical treatment, or the condition of the driver.
Strickland did not say he had been assessed by medical professionals, and he did not confirm a diagnosis or timeline for returning to training. His post should therefore be treated as his own account rather than a medical update.

This latest incident is not Strickland’s first major crash. In December 2018, he was riding home from a King’s MMA training session in Los Angeles when a vehicle turned into his motorcycle while he was travelling at about 45 mph. Strickland said he was unconscious for roughly three hours, woke up in hospital after surgery and later revealed he had suffered a torn patellar tendon and major knee damage. The injuries kept him out of the UFC for two years before he returned in October 2020.
Motorcycle Accident in 2018
The US-born athlete is in his second UFC middleweight title reign after beating Khamzat Chimaev by split decision at UFC 328 in Newark, New Jersey, on May 9. The result ended Chimaev’s unbeaten record and put Strickland back at the top of the 185-pound division.
The UFC has yet to announce his next title defence. Recent reports have linked Strickland with a potential fight against France’s Nassourdine Imavov before the end of 2026, although that matchup has not been officially confirmed by the promotion.
Strickland had also posted days before the accident that he wants to pursue boxing at some stage, preferably under the Zuffa banner. There is no indication that the crash changes those plans, but the fighter’s immediate health will be the priority after his description of a helmetless rollover and head impact.
