Pawel Jaworski Refuses To Compete In ADCC Absolute Without PED Testing
Pawel Jaworski became the first-ever Polish ADCC world champion after winning gold at 88kg – but the newly crowned champion made clear he won’t step into the absolute division unless the organization introduces PED testing.
Speaking with FloGrappling after his win, Jaworski was direct about why he consistently avoids the open class despite competing at the sport’s highest level:
Finally, I can say that if they will add the [PED] tests, I will compete.
It doesn’t make sense for me to go against the guys from the super heavyweight who has taking the juice.
And especially at that ruleset where they are not giving the penalties that often.
Jaworski explained that the combination of a significant size gap and the current ruleset makes the absolute division a difficult proposition for a guard player like himself:
So like it’s hard as a guard player to do anything on the bigger guys because, basically, they cannot even engage to the match and they can force me to the overtime:
And yeah, they can just stall me out and win in the overtime. So yeah, I won’t do it this time.
His comments came shortly after he capped an impressive run through the 88kg bracket, closing out the finals with constant forward pressure that pushed his opponent into penalty territory:
My idea in the standing, because my goal was to pull guard as soon as I can. And I was exposing myself to give the takedown.
But he was like releasing me and he wasn’t like engaging.
So he got the two warnings of the passivity. And then he got the third warning. It means that he got the penalty.
