Watch Rolando Dy Knock Out Paulie Malignaggi Before BKB 60 Title Defence
Paulie Malignaggi got back to his feet after the first knockdown. Rolando Dy gave him little time to settle. The Filipino champion dropped the former two-division boxing titleholder again and won by knockout 56 seconds into the second round of their bare-knuckle fight in Manchester on May 16.
The bout headlined BKB 54: Mayhem in Manchester at AO Arena and was Dy’s first defence of the BKB world super welterweight championship. He pressed Malignaggi in the opening round, landing a left hook that hurt him. Five seconds into the second, a left hook-right straight combination put Malignaggi on the canvas.

Malignaggi beat the count, but another right hand sent him down near the ropes, ending his bid for the belt. It was quite a matchup on paper, Malignaggi had held world boxing titles at junior welterweight and welterweight, while Dy had built his career across mixed martial arts and bare-knuckle fighting.

The Manchester result left Dy with a 6-1 bare-knuckle record, including five knockouts. For anyone arriving at the clip without the backstory, this was no exhibition between a boxer and an MMA veteran. A world title was on the line, and Dy already owned it. Dy won that belt in Cardiff on December 5, 2025, beating Liam Rees at BKB 49. The victory made him the first Filipino to become a bare-knuckle boxing world champion. His father is Rolando Navarrete, the former WBC super featherweight champion.
According to BKB, they became the first father and son to hold world titles across conventional boxing and bare-knuckle boxing. The family connection is striking, but Dy’s win over Malignaggi gave his own title reign its most recognisable name so far.
Now there is another defence on the calendar. Dy will face Scott “The Mute” McHugh in the BKB 60 main event on Saturday, October 10, at Utilita Arena Newcastle. McHugh is a five-time BKB champion with a listed record of 17-5 and seven knockouts; Dy enters at 6-1 with five knockouts. It will be BKB’s first event in Newcastle. The title fight moved into the headline slot after an earlier version of the card had Mick Terrill against Kamil Sokolowski at the top.
