UFC Veteran Predicts Alex Pereira Will Go on a Losing Streak at Heavyweight
A UFC veteran has predicted what Alex Pereira’s future is going to look like in the heavyweight division.
Former UFC two-division champion Pereira moved up to 265 pounds earlier this year after vacating his light heavyweight throne. On June 14, he locked horns with Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250 for the interim strap and was knocked out in the second round by “Bon Gamin.
After an unsuccessful heavyweight debut, “Poatan” is now scheduled to lock horns with Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 335.
Alexander Volkov says Alex Pereira will go on a “losing streak”
Alexander Volkov, who has shared the octagon with Sergei Pavlovich, has given his two cents on how the “Poatan” vs. Pavlovich bout could play out and whether Alex Pereira can find success in the heavyweight division.
According to “Drago,” Pereira could find himself on a losing streak, and against Pavlovich, who possesses serious knockout power, the former two-division champ will be in real danger. The 34-year-old Russian has 18 professional knockout wins and has stopped contenders such as Tallison Teixeira, Curtis Blaydes, Tai Tuivasa, and Derrick Lewis, among many others, notably in Round 1. Volkov told Helen Yee:
“I see Alex Pereira going on a losing streak because it’s a very hard matchup for him, especially because Pavlovich punches very hard, honestly. If you compare his style, not a good matchup for him.”
Volkov, however, is excited to watch the UFC 335 pre-fight presser. He added:
“It will be a very awesome press conference with both of them. One of them will say, ‘We’ll see,’ and the other one will say, ‘Chama.’”

The MMA community has questioned whether Alex Pereira has the frame to compete in the heavyweight division. Many believe the Brazilian fighter does not need to gain unnecessary weight.
For example, the undefeated Josh Hokit has already shown that a 265-pounder can weigh in at 231 pounds and still dominate and win bouts. “Poatan’s” knockout ability is unlikely to fade. And he could follow a similar approach to Hokit so that he can get back the speed and movement that made him so dangerous at 205 pounds, and before that at middleweight.
