Natalia Silva pushed her UFC win streak to nine en route to capturing the vacant UFC women’s flyweight title last weekend at UFC 332 in Salt Lake City, Utah, but that still wasn’t impressive enough to bring fans out to her hometown championship parade.
Many fight fans hated UFC 332’s card before it actually played out, but the promotion’s return to Utah provided one of the sickest collections of fights this year. In fact, the event set an all-time UFC record with 11 total knockouts. Unfortunately for Silva, she was not part of that historic feat after going five hard rounds with Wang Cong in a lackluster main event (results HERE).
While Silva did what she needed to do to win more rounds than Cong and walk away with the UFC title around her waist, fight fans are still having trouble looking at her as the division’s true champion. That’s because former UFC flyweight queen and all-time legend, Valentina Shevchenko, vacated her title due to injury. In fact, there are reports that UFC officials forced Shevchenko to give up her title because they needed a championship fight to headline UFC 332. For most, “Bullet” is still best in class.
Unfortunately for Silva, it appears fans still aren’t paying attention to her success inside of the Octagon. The newly-minted UFC women’s flyweight champion returned home this week and was hoping for a parade in front of her fans. Sadly, nobody showed up to celebrate her victory, leaving Silva in the back of a truck traveling down an empty road.
