Trending:Darren Till gets honest about his performance in win over Yoel RomeroZuffa LLC
Dana White and Eddie Hearn remain at odds, but the Zuffa Boxing boss is giving the Matchroom head honcho his due.
White and Hearn used to be rather chummy before the UFC CEO entered the boxing business. Things have gotten ugly with the promotion of Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua. Hearn represents Joshua, while White has claimed that he will be involved in helping build the Dec. 12 showdown. Hearn has claimed that White has been legally barred from having any part of the promotion for the fight.
There are surely plenty of other barbs to come, but White was actually complimentary of Hearn in one area. Speaking to The Sun, White praised his promoter rival for sticking to his guns on keeping Fury vs. Joshua in the UK (h/t Bloody Elbow).
“I don’t disagree,” White said. “There are a lot of different forces involved in an event like this… With how many tickets are sold in Cardiff, as big as the arena is, it would have done very well at Madison Square Garden too. “But I don’t disagree, and you’ve gotta credit Eddie and AJ for fighting hard to keep it in the UK,” he continued. “But this fight was going to do well wherever it was.”
Reports claimed that Fury’s team was pushing for the fight to take place inside Madison Square Garden in New York City. Joshua had already signed his end of the deal that stated the fight would be held in the UK. Fury eventually agreed, and the Netflix clash is scheduled to take place at Principality Stadium in Cardiff. Tickets went on sale to the public this past Friday.
Do you think Dana White’s compliment of Eddie Hearn was simply more gamesmanship, or do you believe he was being sincere? Be sure to discuss the topic with others in the comments below.
