Former UFC star Michael ‘Venom’ Page is now one of Mixed Martial Arts’ highest-paid athletes after signing with Misfits.
Michael ‘Venom’ Page stole the headlines last week when it was announced that the former UFC two-division fighter was signing with Misfits Boxing in free agency. After Page’s UFC contract expired following a win at UFC Paris, the former Bellator title challenger will be the face of Misfits’ planned expansion into Mixed Martial Arts.
Page’s 5-1 record in the UFC Octagon wasn’t enough for Dana White and the matchmakers to re-sign the talented striker. He repeatedly publicly criticized the promotion’s fighter pay model in recent months, comments which might’ve contributed to the UFC’s decision not to re-sign him.
After signing with Misfits, Page is now one of the sport’s highest-earning athletes.
Michael ‘Venom’ Page making twice as much money in Misfits than entire UFC tenure
During a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, Page detailed how Misfits and the UFC treated him.
“Misfits came with an absolutely crazy deal, which means I’ve continued to grow and get better financially,” Page said.
“I’ve left the UFC, and I’m making more money. Two times more, maybe just over, and in a shorter period. In a three-fight deal, I’ll make more than I have in my entire UFC contract. To be fair, this one happened relatively quickly. We kind of didn’t know as recently as three or four days back; it still wasn’t 100 percent confirmed where we’re going. But yeah, this makes sense.
“As I said, I feel free of the shackles. I’m a very creative person — my walkouts, my entrances, my exits — and I wasn’t allowed to do that,” Page continued. “And I feel like here, they’re literally like, ‘Look, we want you to be yourself.’ That’s going to help me be my best self.”
