Jean Silva Sees Carlos Prates Knocking Out Islam Makhachev and Explains Why
Jean Silva is confident his teammate Carlos Prates will dethrone Islam Makhachev in a stunning upset.
Prates is rumoured to challenge welterweight champion Makhachev early next year and has already started training for the title bout. Makhachev is also game to fight before Ramadan 2027, as he said after a successful title defence at UFC 330.
Prates has already warned Makhachev, saying he’s going to knock him out and is “wrestling’s worst nightmare.” Now Prates’ teammate Silva has explained why he’s confident “The Nightmare” will send the two-division UFC champion to the shadow realm.
Jean Silva explains why Carlos Prates will knock out Islam Makhachev
During a recent interview with MMA Fighting, “Lord” said that after watching Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Machado Garry, he’s confident that Makhachev will not trade with a knockout artist like Carlos Prates. As per the Brazilian 145-pounder, Garry doesn’t have the same knockout power as Prates. Hence, Makhachev chose to stand and bang with the Irishman.
However, when the Dagestani wrestling maestro takes on “The Nightmare”, Silva believes it’ll be hard for Makhachev to ‘go 5 rounds without taking a heavy blow from Prates.’ He said:
“He [Islam Makhachev] stood to trade with Ian Garry, because Ian Garry doesn’t have the kind of knockout power that Prates has, He’s not going to stand and trade with Prates. That’s a huge advantage for Carlos Prates, because he knows that the moment he lands his hand, the fight is over, It’s five rounds. I doubt he can go five rounds without taking a big shot from Prates.” [h/t: MMA Fighting]

Prates has already knocked out 2 former UFC champions back-to-back, and if he does the same against someone like Islam Makhachev, he would be considered one of the greatest knockout artists in MMA history.
