Marc-Andre Barriault vs. Kyle Daukaus, UFC Edmonton Credit: UFC
Looking to keep the vibe of UFC Edmonton’s NINE straight finishes, Kyle Daukaus faced Quebec’s Marc-Andre Barriault in a middleweight tilt. After returning to the UFC, Daukaus scored two big finishes before suffering the same fate at the hands of Bo Nickal at the White House.
Barriault was in a different spot, having dropped 5 of his last 6, including his last two coming in. Despite giving tough fights to Shara Magomedov and Michal Oleksiejczuk recently, a loss meant the chopping block could be near.
Round 1 – Both men established the center of the cage, with Daukaus creeping in and landing a slick uppercut. As Daukaus pressured, Barriault snapped his head back with a short right hand. Daukaus quickly shot a takedown in response, wrapping up a body lock and eventually working the fight to the floor.
Daukaus trapped Barriault against the cage, giving him no room to scramble, and slowly worked to mount. Once Daukaus postured, Barriault shot up and gave up his back, which Daukaus quickly latched onto.
He threatened the rear-naked choke immediately, and kept working for it until Barriault shoveled out and stood up. Daukaus shot again in the clinch, but was met by a nice knee from Barriault. After committing to the takedown, Barriault slammed some elbows into the side of his head, which forced him to change position.
When he did, Barriault framed his head and launched another massive knee, dropping Daukaus immediately. Daukaus was clearly hurt on his back, and Barriault poured on relentless ground-and-pound for 20 seconds before Marc Goddard was forced to step in.
Official Result: Marc-Andre Barriault def. Kyle Daukaus via TKO (knee & ground and pound) Round 1, 4:28
