A former student has accused AJ Agazarm, a decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion and MMA fighter, of grooming.
The allegation follows his September arrest on suspicion of residential burglary in Ventura County, California. No charges have been filed.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office records, Agazarm was taken into custody on September 22, 2026, at 5:45 p.m. and booked into the main jail that evening.
He posted $50,000 bail and was released the next day. He is the lead instructor at Agazarmy Atascadero in San Luis Obispo County.
The arrest stems from claims by his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend, who says the property was her family home. She supplied security footage from a hidden indoor camera that allegedly shows a masked man in a black hoodie and gloves entering a room at 3:41 p.m. that day, about two hours before the arrest.
She says the intruder took the camera, legal documents and the opener for her home’s garage and gate.
The pair were together from around May 2023 to December 2025. She was 19 and he was 35 when it began, and she calls the dynamic, with him as her instructor, “textbook grooming.”
She alleges physical and emotional abuse throughout:
I was so deep in the cycle of abuse.
A temporary restraining order was issued on September 28 as part of an ongoing domestic violence case in Ventura County, following an emergency protective order granted the day of his arrest.
One week before the arrest, Agazarm filed for his own restraining order in San Luis Obispo County, after a cease-and-desist letter from her attorney. It was temporarily granted and dismissed within a month.
Agazarm won the 2014 IBJJF No-Gi World Championship at adult black belt light division and took silver at the 2017 ADCC under 145 lbs (66 kg).
He fought for Bellator from November 2018 until sometime after August 2020.
