UFC welterweight star Carlos Prates didn’t take kindly to Uros Medic’s callout in the Octagon at UFC Belgrade.
Ahead of UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev’s showdown with Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330, Uros Medic made a statement by knocking out Daniel Rodriguez on home soil. Medic, a former Dana White’s Contender Series standout, has won four fights in a row and is climbing towards title contention.
Medic is one of several intriguing contenders in the stacked UFC welterweight division. Carlos Prates, who finished former champion Jack Della Maddalena at UFC Perth, could potentially be next in line for a title shot against the Makhachev vs. Garry winner.
After finishing Rodriguez, Medic turned his attention towards the welterweight division’s top contenders, including Prates and former champ Leon Edwards. Prates didn’t take long to take notice of Medic’s post-fight interview.
Carlos Prates tells Uros Medic to ‘calm down’ as he assures title shot is next
In a recent Instagram post, Prates responded to Medic’s callout at UFC Belgrade.
“A lot of you guys, Sean Brady, Uros Medic, and the other welterweights, have been mentioning my name. Calm down, brothers,” Prates said.
“In my next fight, I’m taking that belt. After that, I’ll deal with all of you and take you straight to the Kingdom of Pain. Be ready. Nothing personal, just business.”
Prates and UFC 330 backup fighter Michael Morales both make intriguing cases for the next title shot. But Makhachev recently claimed that Morales will need to fight at least one more time before getting a shot at the belt, opening the door to Prates and others.
If Garry beats Makhachev at UFC 330, the matchmakers would likely give the pound-for-pound king an immediate welterweight title rematch. And if Makhachev successfully defends the title, expect Prates to be next in line.
