Brandon Moreno didn’t just leave Noche UFC with another win on his record. After taking care of Joseph Morales in front of a loud Mexican crowd in Arizona, the former UFC champion made it clear he still sees himself sitting at the top of the flyweight division, belt or no belt.
“I’m just throwing a statement like, I’m the best flyweight in the world. If you believe in that or not I don’t care, that’s not my problem,” Moreno told Cageside Press among other reporters at his post-fight scrum.
“I have to believe in myself, and I have to believe I’m the best f*cking flyweight of the world.”
Moreno felt like he had done more than enough to get his hand raised, but hearing one judge score the fight for Morales gave him a quick scare. Given his history with close decisions, he admitted there was a moment where he wondered if things were about to go sideways again.
“I have really bad experience with decisions. Sometimes when I finish a fight and I’m going to the decision with the judges. I’m trying to be very honest with myself. I said like maybe this fight is kind of weird. I understand maybe I can lose, you know,” he said.
“In this one I finish and I felt super confident I got the victory, but then the judge say 29-28 to Morales. I was like, ‘What the f*****ck?”. Then the other judges say 30-27, and (I was like) ok now I feel more confident. Yeah man, I was a little scared.”
“Tonight was amazing. Was the same as 2021 when I won the title. This time, again, all the people supporting me every single time. Screaming my name. The only thing I can say is thank you,” he said.
“Thank you because I feel the love tonight.”
