Ryan Garcia has agreed to defend his WBC welterweight title against Floyd Mayweather Jr. at some point in 2027. Their bout is not official at this time — but where there is smoke, there is usually fire. Bettors can get a jump on the 147-pound showdown now that opening odds have been released. BetOnline.ag has Garcia as the -400 betting favorite against +300 for Mayweather.
“Just got off the phone with Floyd Mayweather talking about fighting,” Garcia wrote on Instagram. “It’s real and he wants to do a real fight at 147. He and I both agreed to post this! Let’s rumble. This will be for the 147-pound WBC world championship. I made that very clear and Floyd and I agreed to fight.”
Sounds like Garcia and Mayweather have the support of the sanctioning body.
“If Floyd Mayweather passes all the examinations, if Floyd Mayweather gets a license from a boxing commission where the fight is to be taking place, the WBC will certainly support Floyd Mayweather,” WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman told Hard Rock Bet. “Just as we did support Sugar Ray Leonard when he came back and fought Hagler, just as we did support Manny Pacquiao when he came back and fought Barrios, and even Ryan Garcia when he fought Barrios.”
“So, as long as the medical area is completely clear and covered,” Sulaiman continued. “Floyd Mayweather — he’s an emeritus champion for the WBC, and he has never been in any scandal. He doesn’t drink. He doesn’t party. It doesn’t seem that his body has been hurt in any way. He’s always in shape. So, if that comes to pass, that could be a possibility.”
