Petr Yan has worked incredibly hard to build himself back up to champion status, and if he gets through Dvalishvili, there are plenty of other contenders who will be waiting to try and prove that they can dethrone the Russian sensation.
In a recent interview, Petr Yan opened up on potentially changing weight class at some point to take on a new challenge.
Petr Yan contemplates his MMA future
“You know, if someone is gonna move up and challenge me, it’s maybe a question for them, not for me,” he told Full Violence. “But, personally, for myself, moving up, it sounds interesting too. Somewhere in the future, yeah.”
“145 champ is my friend Alex Volkanovski, so I don’t want to beat him up,” Yan added.

Yan’s focus right now is on maintaining his spot at the top of the division, but given the career turnaround he has enjoyed in the last few years, nobody would be surprised to see him challenge himself at 145 pounds. Who knows, maybe we could even have another two-weight world champion on our hands.
Whatever the case may be, it’s nice to see that the Volkanovski alliance from back in the day means that the two are still good pals.
