Carlos Prates has his eyes firmly fixed on Welterweight champion Islam Makhachev.
The Brazilian knockout artist is in the midst of a serious tear. Winner of seven of eight Octagon bouts, Prates has won three straight fights via knockout in increasingly devastating fashion. His last two wins come against former champions in Leon Edwards and Jack Della Maddalena (watch here), creating serious momentum towards his first title shot and a clash with the Russian great.
The video begins with Prates at a bar with his new coach, Eric Albaraccin, and Prates declares himself, “Wrestling’s worst nightmare!”
Albaraccin cuts in, “He smokes American cigarettes. He drinks Irish whiskey, he breaks women’s hearts, and he’s coming to dethrone the pound-for-pound king! The wrestler’s worst nightmare.”
Booze and WWE introductions aside, Albaraccin could be a serious asset for Prates. Known best for his work coaching Henry Cejudo and Patricio Pitbull, Albaraccin has a deep background in wrestling that could help Prates keep the fight standing for just a little while longer.
