Watch: “Tartan Titan” David Winiarski Brutal Knockdown in Slow Motion
David Winiarski has a Saturday night appointment in Newcastle and Geraint Goodridge is the man standing between him and another bare-knuckle win. Scotland’s “Tartan Titan” faces the “Magic Man” at BKB 60 on October 10, with Utilita Arena hosting the promotion’s first event in the city. Gloves will not be part of the dress code. The matchup gives Winiarski another opportunity to build on his second-round stoppage of James Connelly.
David Winiarski Heads for BKB 60 With Newcastle Next on His Hit List
The Kelty fighter heads into the event with four wins and one defeat on BKB‘s official profile, which lists victories over Dean Patterson, Simey Doherty, Bogdan Suru and Connelly. That Connelly win gives this fight some momentum. At BKB 54 in Manchester, Winiarski dropped his opponent in both rounds before the contest ended by TKO at 2:29 of the second. Connelly came into the matchup with 15 bare-knuckle appearances, giving Winiarski a chance to test himself against someone who had already spent plenty of time in this business.
Winiarski made that opportunity count. He worked with straight punches, hooks and shots to the body, with damage around Connelly’s right eye and nose contributing to the finish. It was another inside-the-distance result for the Scot, who had also stopped Suru in the second round.
His win over Doherty, meanwhile, required five rounds and a split decision. The record contains more than one route to getting his hand raised. There has been a setback, too. Keiron Harding stopped Winiarski in the third round, the sole defeat shown on his BKB profile. That result sits between the Suru and Connelly fights in the promotion’s listed history, with the Connelly victory putting him back in the win column ahead of this Newcastle assignment.
Before bare-knuckle boxing, Winiarski competed in amateur MMA, compiling a 6-2 record. Now the fighter from Kelty has made “Tartan Titan” his BKB identity, carrying the Scottish theme into his ring attire as well as his nickname. Saturday takes that act south, with Goodridge getting the next chance to interrupt it.
The published card also includes Rolando Dy against Scott McHugh and former IBF super featherweight champion Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr. against Hyslop. Diaz is scheduled to compete in the United Kingdom for the first time, adding another talking point to BKB’s Newcastle debut.
